Jingfu Temple

ingfu Temple
Jinfu Temple is the largest religious center for descendents of Jhangjhou immigrants in Taiwan. The temple used to be the center of old Tao-zih-yuan Fortress. The crossroad of Jhongshan Road and Jhongjheng Road forms the most complete temple square in Taiwan. The plaza in front of the temple was the venue for various activities and Taiwanese operas. The temple is recognized as a third-class historic site and the largest Kai-Jhang Saint King Temple. The main hall and the rear hall have two layers of roofs and multiple layers of eaves, an architectural feature that is rarely seen in the temples in Taiwan.

Martyr¡¦s Shrine in Hutou(Tiger-head) Mountain

Martyr¡¦s Shrine in Hutou(Tiger-head) Mountain
The Martyr¡¦s Shrine in Hutou Mountain is the most well preserved Tang-style architecture in Taiwan. The shrine was built and completed by the Japanese in 1938 as a temple worshipping Amaterasu, the mythical ancestress of the royal family of Japan. After WWII, some people suggested to tear down the temple when other suggested to keep it. After rounds of negotiation, the temple was preserved in the form of a Martyr¡¦s Shrine. It is the only Tang-style architecture left in Taiwan. The shrine worships Jheng Chenggung(Koxinga), Liu Yungfu, and Chiu Fengjia. Public memorial ceremony is organized on March 29, the Youth Day in Taiwan every year. Standing at the shrine, visitors can enjoy a bird¡¦s eye view over Taoyuan City, and the area is believed to have the best Fengshui. The main buildings include an antique propylon, east wing, west wing and the main hall. All are made of cypress, and the color of cypress makes the shrine more solemn. In the beautiful garden are pavilions, ponds and cherry trees. It is a miracle that the shrine survives after so many turbulent years, and it is indeed a blessing for Taoyuan residents.
